BROCKTON, MA. — It was a mixed bag for the Rox in their doubleheader action Saturday night at Campanelli stadium; Brockton scored nine runs in the fourth inning for a 12-4 game one victory, and in game two, Max Martzolf threw a one-hit complete game shutout to give New Jersey a 5-0 victory. The Jackals' record stands at 28-63 for the season, and for Brockton, their record is 36-54.

GAME ONE

Brockton's starting pitcher, Eli Majick, earned his fourth win of the season, improving his record to 4-2. He pitched a complete game, spanning seven innings, during which he allowed nine hits and four runs (all earned), walked two batters, and struck out two.

On the other hand, New Jersey's starting pitcher, Francis Ferguson, received the loss, dropping his record to 2-8 for the season. He pitched 3.2 innings, giving up nine hits and nine runs (five earned), while also walking four batters and striking out two.

Jake DeLeo put the Jackals ahead with a solo home run to left field, landing in the Rox bullpen in the second inning. The ball traveled 356 feet and came off his bat at an exit velocity of 108 mph. For DeLeo, it was his sixth home run of the campaign.

In the fourth inning, New Jersey extended their lead to 2-0. Gilberto Torres singled to center field, and Ryan Ford walked, giving the Jackals two runners on with nobody out. Torres advanced to third on a double play, and Issac Bellony drove home the second run of the game with an RBI double to right field.

Evan Giordano started the bottom of the fourth inning with a bloop base hit, and Hemmanuel Rosario followed with an infield hit. The shortstop's throw to first was an overthrow, and while Rosario attempted to advance to second, he was thrown out for the first out of the inning. Giordano reached third base, then Derek Bender walked, allowing Jeter Ybarra to hit an RBI double to the center field wall, cutting the Jackals' lead to 2-1.

A few batters later, Brockton loaded the bases for Jamey Smart, who delivered a two-run base hit, giving Brockton a 3-2 lead. Shortly thereafter, Austin White and Tommy Kretzler each contributed an RBI single. Hemmanuel Rosario capped off a nine-run, nine-hit bottom of the fourth inning with a grand slam to left field, traveling 412 feet and coming off the bat at 105 mph. It was Rosario's tenth home run of the season, and a total of twelve batters went to the plate during this inning.

Gilberto Torres hit a solo home run to left field in the sixth inning, which traveled 347 feet and cut the lead to 9-3. It was his first home run of the season.

The Rox added three more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by an RBI double from Tommy Kretzler and an RBI triple from Giordano. Giordano also scored on a wild pitch.

New Jersey added one run in the seventh inning but ultimately fell short, losing the game 12-4.

GAME TWO

New Jersey starting pitcher Max Martzolf earned the win, improving his record to 1-3. He pitched six innings, allowing only one hit, walking two batters, and striking out four.

Brockton starting pitcher Omar Melendez took the loss, falling to 1-4 for the season. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up seven hits and five earned runs, while walking three batters and striking out five.

New Jersey initiated a two-out rally and scored first when Ford walked, stole second, and then Albert Cipion delivered a line-drive base hit up the middle, giving the Jackals a 1-0 lead.

Melendez struck out the side in the top of the third inning.

In the fourth inning, New Jersey had two runners in scoring position when both scored on a wild pitch. Additionally, Ford crossed home plate due to an error by Bender, putting Brockton down by three runs heading into the bottom half of the third.

The Jackals loaded the bases with one out in the fourth inning. Anthony Nigro scored on a wild pitch, allowing both other runners to advance to scoring position. With two outs in the inning, Albert Cipion delivered an RBI base hit, extending their lead to 5-0.

In the sixth inning, New Jersey loaded the bases for the second consecutive inning with one out. Joe Kemlege came in from the bullpen and ended the threat after throwing just one pitch, inducing a 5-2-3 double play.

Martzolf retired fifteen straight Brockton batters. The last hit for the Rox came in the second inning when Smart delivered a base hit. This streak was briefly interrupted in the final out of the game when Bender drew a walk.

Both teams will meet again at 4:00 P.M. for a single-admission doubleheader, marking the conclusion of the 2025 season for both teams.
