BROCKTON, MA. - As the Rox look toward another breakout season, all eyes are on the fresh roster at Campanelli Stadium. Outfielder Sebastian Mexico, utility player Reid Taylor and returner outfielder Jordan Thomas will be some of the faces you will see this season.
Mexico talks about the expectation that he has for this season. “I am excited to get out there with the boys and see what everyone does. Obviously we are all coming from different places, different schools and different levels. So it will be exciting to go out there and see how our personalities match.”
He also added what we should expect of this team during the season on the offense part. “It is looking like we have a mix of everything. We got a bunch of guys that hit low, line drives. I can tell a lot of guys have speed factors as well, so it will be really exciting to see how all of that gets put into play.”
Thomas is back for his second season with the Rox and expressed the importance of having a bounce-back year. “It is very important, it’s good to play good when you are feeling good. When everything is not going great that’s when the true ballplayer come out and perform.” He expressed why fans should be excited this year. “We got some new faces here and we are still making some improvement to the stadium so it should be good to have the support and come out and watch us.”
Taylor talks about his progression throughout camp for tomorrow opening night at Vermont. “I feel that I am pretty well prepared just coming down from high school. Definitely it is going to be something new but we are going to see how it goes, they’re going to be new things so we are going to try and see how it goes.”
Additionally he added what fans should expect out of him in his first season with the Rox. “Just get ready for some good defense. I got to say that’s what my main goal is - as a defensive player trying to get after it with the glove.” Finally he talked about the impact that he can provide during the course of the game that could change the outcome of a baseball game. “Hopefully on the defensive and offense side on the ball making my plays and doing my job up the plate trying to get the guys over and taking good swings.”
The Brockton Rox are set to open the 2024 season tonight when they travel to Burlington, Vermont to face Vermont Lake Monster for a three game set at Centennial Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
